Legend of Pedro and Inês
The romance between D. Inês and D. Pedro was an unwanted love for the court and the people. In 1344, king D. Afonso IV (father of D. Pedro) ordered to beheaded Inês for fearing that D. Pedro would give up the kingdom to Castile. It was at Quinta das Lágrimas (where they were several times in secret) that D. Inês was killed.
Legend has it that the drops of blood spilled on the Fountain of Tears are still visible today.
